In the event of a fire, light sources may fail, leaving the identification of escape routes dependent on
secondary back-up lighting. The great advantage of this material is that no back up power source is needed.
The photoluminescent pigment absorbs natural and electric light and stores the energy. When the light source
is terminated the material illuminates independently.
Wayfinding coatings and signage, used in accordance the P.S.P.A. Code of Practice 002 Part 1, can provide
an excellent solution for escape route lighting in emergency and ordinary power loss situations.
In areas where corridors are used as escape routes, the painting of continuous waist level and skirting
level strips, each with a minimum width of 100mm is recommended. In large open areas which have no corridors,
e.g. shopping precincts and airports, two 100mm wide tram lines or one single 200mm guide path should be painted.
